Interesting post , I am going to spend more time researching this subject
There is one more theory of Learning from the ancient Indian Psychology/Philosphy, by name “Learning by Verbal Testimony(LVT)”. The simplest statement: Words of a trust-worthy person inculcates learning among individuals. LVT is the natural and simple. A good stocck of both animal and human learning occurs by LVT.
We learn many concrete and abstract things by LVT. We learn structure of atom, neutron, proton etc. first by LVT, and later we may go for testing, verification, revision, modification, replication, refutation, and rejection.
Had LVT is not there the science would not have grown to this level as we witness today. Newton wasted (as we think) one full life for inventing just three laws of motion, but to day we learn in three minutes. How? by LVT.
Learning which is impossible by other learning theories is possible by LVT.
We learn our father by the testimony of mother only, but not by trail-and error/conditioning/imitation/insight/intuition et.hoc.
This is in vogue since centuries together, say 25. Recently, one senior professor at Harvard hints that learning by listening with testimony is possible.
LVT is the best way to learn the content of the affective domain. Say, attitudes, interests, belifs, values, et.id.
Excellent information on how people learn. This is extremely important when working with children because knowing how your student learns will benefit the child’s learning style and ability.
Great resource… gonna need some time to go through it! : )) thank you
Go constructivism!!!
To me it’s a great way to empower the learner – if done properly.
Many different thoeries. Very daunting for a person preparing to enter the teaching profession. Hopefully more preparation and education will be beneficial.
I Like more books regarding to learning theory. Because I am graduate this year in pedagogy.
Very interesting read, thanks.
Does change in behaviour the only way to determine how children learn?
Mary – thank you for your comment, and for coming to visit! Eric
Thank you for your hard work and for sharing it with some of us.
